    I spent 2 weeks about 20hrs shooting straight draw shots across the table to work on my stroke. It was horribly boring and rewarding. I felt drilling anything else without having confidence in a good stroke seemed pointless.

    I have watched your videos about the draw shot technique, but I just cannot be consistent. I do well on other tables, but on mine it's seems very difficult to me. I get really frustrated, because I think I aim low enough and scoop the CB. I aim higher and don't really get much of a draw.

  • @oshua86

    @ShortstopOnPool I think it’s a bit of a stretch for you to say that is a “stroke defect” without looking further into it. I know you are very against the elbow drop, but that is just the American pool teaching culture, in Europe which currently is producing some of the best players in the world and have some of the best pool programs a natural elbow drop for high level pool is actually considered a good a desirable stroke. A high level player like Fedor is not kicking out the wrist as a defect, after contact with the cue ball as you let go of the arm when the wrist comes through as a right handed player it will contact the chest muscle, that collision will push the wrist out to the right slightly and the cue will slightly bounce to the left before it vibrates back to the shooting line, the cue ball has longggg been gone before any of this happens. There is however a bigger problem as to why many players will cue across the shooting line, as often happens a right handed player will cue across to the left, and it has to do with pivoting, and the issue is at the feet. Most people don’t realize that every has to “pivot” their body on every shot as you come down on the shot, and the tendency is to under pivot their body then when they are addressing the cue ball they might seem like they are hitting center ball but the butt of the cue is slightly to the right of the aiming line, then on their final stroke they are coming slightly to the left of the shooting line. That is also why the most common mistake for a right handed player when trying to hit center ball is to put a slight amount of left English on the cueball at delivery. Often times instructors will blame this on their vision center (sometimes this could be the case) but almost never they look at this body pivotal issue. I’ve actually noticed this quite a bit on your videos and mechanics of your shooting even with your pendulum stroke. I am also an instructor and have ran this experiment many many times with students. And easy way to reveal this flaw is with a leveling laser set up on the mighty X drill and a mirror in the front so you can see yourself. You will see how the the laser will split the shaft almost center but as the laser comes across the butt of the cue the butt will be to the right of the laser line. Spend the $30 on Amazon for a green leveling laser and run the experiment on yourself and you will be amazed at the result. You can fix it by consciously over pivoting your body a little as you go down, or putting your back foot slightly left while standing. If you are a player that is intune on how the cue ball “feels” at delivery you will notice how more “energy” gets delivered solidly at impact on the cue ball and the shots where the cue ball has traces of left English during the mighty X disappears. I’m saying all this from the perspective of a right handed player, if you are left handed it’s the inverse. I’m an instructor and a 700+ player. P.S:Sorry for any grammar errors, I wrote most of this via speach to text.

    • @ShortstopOnPool
      @ShortstopOnPool 3 дні тому

      I have done all of that experimentation as well. Even a couple videos on my channel with my laser. I cover the "twist at chest impact" in my How to Shoot Straight video. Fedor shoots straight very often with LOTS of elbow drop. I agree feet and body position are key. We should compare notes sometime. I'm too busy now but making a note... Thanks.

    Im (probably) one of the tallest pool players in the world.. Im 6'8" and i play with a jflowers cue with standard carbon 29 inch shaft and a 6inches extension , its too heavy for me ( almost 23 ounces ) should I buy a carbon fiber 2 ounces extension ? or just make a 3d print of a light 6 inch extension ? ( i thought its possible to make a custom light weight extension with light material )

    • @ShortstopOnPool

    pro-pree-oh-seption not Pro-pry-oh-seption. Sry, I really hate to be a grammar n@z! Or anything, but as a nurse it's almost like nails on a chalk board. Just like when people say cubic sonometer instead of cubic centimeter. Or really using either instead of just saying milliliter, since that's what it really is anyways... It's a measure of liquid not volume even though they are identical (which makes me angry every time I think about how stupid it is we still use feet and gallons instead of a universal system where everything is so easily converted. It's honestly make science and math so much easier for students... Fractions of an inch alone drive droves of people away). Ok. Sorry, off my soap box.

      Straight Pool was the only game played by the pros for almost 100 years. Its not just one rack, the goal is to run as many as possible without missing. Pros often run over 100 balls in a row, opening the rack while pocketing the next ball. The world record is 714 balls in a row. Straight Pool is the most difficult game there is. Makes 8-ball and 9-ball look like childs play. ua-cam.com/video/s-pekuElp1E/v-deo.htmlsi=ljyvDVxUnpPPPuqs

    Lots of made up problems with a standard bridge that this does not actually address any differently. Cue slipping out of a fixed point, visual referencing... etc ...and the added bonus of carrying multiple devices to do the work of one standard piece of equipment. More like another wallet changer then a game changer. Love your playing content otherwise.

      You are talking about throw. This video was intended be just the basics so I only mentioned it, nothing more. Throw has nothing to do with distance. It has to do with speed and friction of the balls (dirty vs clean, or new vs old) and chalk on the cue ball (why so many players have switched to Taom chalk).

If you have difficulty with it, just take the time to practice using it. It's actually not that difficult to use a standard bridge with a proper setup.
